A brief introduction, it's taken me a long time to get round to posting this because I've never written a blog or anything about me so I keep telling myself I'll do it tomorrow, and here I am many tomorrows later, still wondering how to make this not sound lame as hell. Anyway! I'm Catherine Ives-Keeler, 19 years old and studying my first year of Game Art Design at De Montfort University. I've spent the last year doing the foundation here which was...interesting, but turned out to be extremely helpful as well as helping me getting to know Leicester for a year and getting used to not living at home.I come from a little village called Blundeston in a town called Lowestoft, and no one seems to know where the hell it is, but it's safe to say it's very different from Leicester. But here I am after a very long and very emotionally draining summer and it feels damn good to actually have something to do now, even though it was sad having to leave my cats behind.
I chose to do Game Art Design because when I found out about the course, it seemed perfect for me. I'd spent 2 years of college thinking i'd be doing graphics, and i'm very glad that i'm not doing that.
I've always played video games from a young age and been interested in the way they work, and being an 'arty' person, I was naturally fascinated by the concepts and the art styles. However as interesting as the concepts and art styles are, my dream job would be to become a 3D artist and building the games, not everyone's cup of tea but I love it. I think it would be amazing to move to somewhere like America and work for a big game company creating games and being able to be part of creating something great that so many people will see and enjoy. But as well as playing games, I also love love love music, going to gigs, just chilling out listening to it, everything to do with it (apart from the fact I cannot play an instrument to save my life), might not be the kind of thing that you'd expect me to like but I do love a bit of Prog Metal. Another fun fact; I can do the rubiks cube in under a minute, yay? I also enjoy photography, exercise is cool, drawing is cool, got a few hobbies going, might even start martial arts, who knows?
Anyway, kinda rambling but basically my point is, I'm really looking forward to seeing where the course takes me and growing as a person and hopefully a Game designer. Doing a foundation last year helped me with drawing, I'm not naturally good at it but I'll get there eventually. 3DS Max is very interesting, it may be confusing and make me want to cry occasionally, but I can't wait to get into it and learn everything and make some sweet 3D models! Anyway hopefully my next posts won't be so scary and I'll do it more often.
